Counselor in Training

A counselor-in-Training (CIT) is a mature individual between the ages of 11-17 and helps to supervise campers and assists with camp activities. CITs should have a passion for nature and/or cultural history and a desire to share this with others. A limited number of one-day volunteer opportunities are available in June. In July, there are opportunities to assist with camps that take place four times over the month.

Why Should I be a CIT?

The CIT program’s goal is to give you an opportunity to make a positive difference in the world one step at a time! This goal will be accomplished by helping you to develop a positive work ethic that you can apply to any leadership experience. In turn, our CITs will be able to transfer their love of nature and/or cultural history to the camp participants; members of our future generation!

How do I become a CIT?

CITs apply to the program as a whole and are placed into available opportunities based on program needs and availability. Volunteers must be able to attend all dates they are assigned.

All applicants will participate in a virtual interview as part of the selection process. Applications are reviewed upon receipt; placements are offered as suitable candidates are identified. Please be aware that space is limited and not everyone who applies will be accepted into the program.

Accepted CITs can expect to volunteer anywhere from 3 hours to up to 10 hours. CITs are required to arrive a half hour before camp starts to help prepare and to stay a half hour after to help clean up. CIT responsibilities include the following: being a role model for campers, helping with specific camp activities each week, attending the orientation meeting, and communicating with the CIT Coordinator and camp leaders.

  • The 2026 application is now closed. Please check back next year to apply.
