Join the 2026 Trails Challenge!

Get outside and explore the beauty of the Champaign County Forest Preserves!

The 2026 Trails Challenge kicks off on May 25 and runs through the end of the year—giving you plenty of time to discover new favorite spots and enjoy the outdoors.

This year we've added a new trail at Oxbow Ridge (an extension of River Bend Forest Preserve), put selfie spots on all loops at Buffalo Trace, and two on the Kickapoo Rail Trail. Now with 34+ trails and nearly 50 miles to explore, there’s something for everyone—whether you’re looking for a quick nature walk or a longer adventure.

How to Participate

We’re using the Goosechase app again this year to make it fun and interactive:

Snap selfies on the trails
Complete fun challenges
Answer questions along the way

Hike at least 5 trails per month to qualify for prizes—and challenge yourself to see how many you can complete by year’s end!
