Sangamon River Streambank Stabilization at Lake of the Woods

Project Overview In Progress

Trillium Drive, the main road through Lake of the Woods, is being eroded by the Sangamon River at an alarming rate (see image below). The erosion mitigation materials are no longer functional. The Streambank Stablization project will remove failed erosion mitigation materials from the Sangamon River and stablize the bank once again. Rock structures, or "barbs," will be installed along the bottom of the river angling away from the inside edge of the river to direct water away from the eroding bank.

The project area is immediately north of the Covered Bridge. During this project, expect road closures. See facebook.com/ccfpd for updates.

The scope includes:

  • Removing trees that interfere with stabilization plan
  • Removing the failed infrastructure
  • Regrading the eroded slope
  • Stabilizing the slope with plantings and erosion control materials
  • Installing "barbs" of rock to redirect water in the Sangamon River
