The 2019 Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan included $11.2 million for the KRT. The money has been granted to the Champaign County Forest Preserves, Urbana Park District, and Vermilion County Conservation District from the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). It will allow about 75% of the remaining trail to be completed.
There are three main phases to be completed:
- Improved trailhead at Weaver Park in Urbana
- Completion of the trail between St. Joseph and Ogden
- Completion of the trail between Ogden and Oakwood (the area from Ogden to Fithian will be deferred until more funding is available)
