Project Overview
One of the oldest exhibit galleries at the Museum of the Grand Prairie is under extensive renovation for a new long-term exhibit, Changing Landscapes: Personal Stories from Early Agriculture in East Central Illinois. New partitions, drywall, and flooring are modernizing and entirely transforming the space. However, a visitor favorite is being preserved. The blacksmith shop will be reinterpreted and updated, but will remain a focal point for the gallery.
Changing Landscapes will tackle the hard work, hardship, and resilience of early settlers, farmers, and trades people through the stories and experience of several representative individuals from east central Illinois. The goal is to provide visitors an opportunity to discover personal connections and an appreciation for the people and communities that shaped the cultural and natural landscapes we live in today.
